Nordeste is a Portuguese village on the island of São Miguel, in the Autonomous Region of the Azores. This village is the seat of the municipality of Nordeste with an area of 101.51 km² and 4,937 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 9 parishes. The municipality is bordered to the south by the municipality of Povoao and to the west by Ribeira Grande and has a coast on the Atlantic Ocean to the north and east. In the Northeast there are many tourist attractions such as the Ponta do Sossego Viewpoint, the Ponta da Madrugada Viewpoint, the Serra da Tronqueira, the Arnel Lighthouse, the Caldeirões Natural Park, among other viewpoints that allow you to see panoramic landscapes to the sea. The Northeast is well known for its vegetation and beautiful flowers such as hydrangeas or azaleas that adorn the county's roads. Here is located Pico da Vara, the highest point on the island of São Miguel, with about 1100 meters of altitude. Its relief is of a mountainous character, cut by streams that slide through the vegetation. With an approximate extension of 1982 hectares, it incorporates a large amount of endemic and typical Macaronesian vegetation, as well as a whole set of rare and valuable flora. The Azores bullfinch, an endemic bird of the island, finds its habitat here. From Pico da Vara, a natural viewpoint, from here you can have an impressive panoramic view over much of the island, with emphasis on the Graminhais Plateau, Pico Verde and Serra da Tronqueira, to the south, and the slopes of the Furnas caldera and the Água de Pau and Devassa mountains, to the west. Santo António de Nordestinho is a parish in the municipality of Nordeste, Portugal. It was officially created on July 16, 2002, together with the neighboring Algarvia and São Pedro de Nordestinho, by division of the former parish of Nordestinho. Santo António de Nordestinho is one of the 9 parishes of the municipality of Nordeste, occupying an area of 7.94 km2, which corresponds to 7.83% of the municipality's territory.
