From the top of the castle, you can see Alqueva - the largest artificial lake in Europe - which transforms the landscape into a mirror of light and silence. And on the other side of the mirror, already in Spanish lands, the border village of Vila Nueva del Fresno can almost be reached with your eyes, just 20 kilometers away. The surrounding territory is of remarkable archaeological richness, with dozens of megalithic monuments - dolmens, menhirs, stone circles - dotting the fields with testimonies of civilizations that lived there and worshiped the land. One of these magical places is the Rocha dos Namorados, where local girls would throw stones in hopes of knowing when they would marry. Each stone that stayed on top of the boulder corresponded to a year of waiting. And even those who do not believe in legends are not indifferent to the telluric force of this ancient rock. And it is still alive. Currently, São Pedro do Corval has more than twenty artisan potteries, representing the largest concentration of potteries in Portugal and one of the largest in the Iberian Peninsula. The location offers the best of both worlds: creative isolation and proximity to historical and cultural centers like Reguengos, Évora, or even Badajoz, on the other side of the border. This house is more than just real estate. It moves those who dwell within it - from within. LEGEND OF THE HOUSE Engraved in the entrance stone, a date: 1698. In the quiet village of São Pedro do Corval, it is said that this is the oldest - or one of the oldest - dwellings in the settlement. Local legend says that the Church of São Pedro, right in front of the house, was built with the treasure left in the care of a simple shoemaker, the previous owner of this house. In the late 17th century, early 18th century, the man is said to have hosted two Italians "fleeing war". Which war? Oral memory does not retain it. What is retained is this: the two foreigners, whose faces are believed to be recognized carved on the church's pediment, left suddenly, leaving the shoemaker some modest bags with a promise to return. But they never came back. When, much later, the good man opened the bags, he found gold, silver, and dazzling jewels. Rather than keep them for himself, he decided to fund the construction of the church. I
